Rochester, N.Y. - Blood supplies in the New York-Penn region are at emergency low levels according to the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross said it collected 50,000 fewer pints of blood in June than expected.
It is hoping to collect 15,000 units over the next two weeks at scheduled and emergency blood drives.
"The Red Cross relies upon generous blood donors so we can supply blood when and where it is needed," said Donna M. Morrissey, American Red Cross Blood Services. "Right now, patients in hospitals across the country need you to roll up your sleeve and give the gift of lifesaving blood."
Eligible donors should call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to www.redcrossblood.org to find a blood drive.
Blood donors in June will received a free t-shirt; donors in July will receive a coupon for a free carton of Friendly's ice cream.
