Rochester, N.Y.- A high number of local flu cases means some visit restrictions are in effect at some local hospitals.
The University of Rochester Medical Center is asking people who are ill with flu-like symptoms like a fever, cough, or sore throat not visit hospitalized patients and all visitors who have not had a flu shot must wear masks.
Also, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, visitation to Golisano Children’s Hospital, as well as Strong Memorial Hospital’s maternity floor, will be restricted to two caregivers or visitors for the duration of these patients’ stays, as designated by their families. And visitors must be 14 years or older.
Rochester General and Newark Wayne Community Hospitals have also temporarily amended their visitor policies.
Only two people at a time are allowed to visit an in-patient.
In addition, the hospitals are asking that people do not visit if they are not feeling well and/or are showing any signs or symptoms of illness.
In Monroe County, there are 1348 confirmed flu cases.
