Incoming services are any of the telephone, video or modem services available for your home. Common examples are cable or satellite TV, and I-S-D-N, a broad-bandwith audio connection, that allows you to surf the net in record time, among other applications. This entire area of technology is rapidly expanding; for an extra fee, some cable companies now offer digital broadcast signals or internet access through your existing cable service. Still up in the air at present is the future of High-Definition Television, or H-D-T-V. Yet it's likely that H-D-T-V will someday be common, as the equipment comes down in price, and more networks begin to broadcast this new, higher-resolution signal. Most home automation systems include at least one incoming service; those who office at home will probably use several. Because special wiring may be required, you'll want to discuss installation of these devices with your electrician. The outdoor part of your connection, however, may need to be coordinated through your local phone or cable company. Contact them for more details.
