Blue and green water stains
Blue or green stains are a sign of copper: It may have entered your water supply; or, you might have copper pipes that are being corroded. Start by having your water tested for copper; also, check its pH, total dissolved solids content, and oxygen content.
Red water stains
Most red stains are a result of iron in the water. However, there are many types of iron, each calling for different methods of removal. A test will reveal what sort of iron problem your water has, so you can seek the appropriate treatment.
Water that smells bad
To treat water that smells, you first have to discover what's causing the odor. It may be something in the raw water, or something inside the house. The best time to check is after you've been away for a few hours.
