The process of learning to play good golf can be extremely frustrating, which may explain why there are so many sets of used clubs available. If you're just starting out in the game, an inexpensive set of used clubs can be found to use while you learn how to play. Investing a thousand dollars or more in a new set of clubs isn't a good idea until you've decided to pursue the game seriously. Check out pawn shops, garage sales, or local golf dealers. You should be able to find some bargains. When shopping for used clubs, inspect them for wear. With woods, if they're made of several different materials, make sure there's no separation between the layers. The condition of the grip can be a good indicator of how much the clubs have been used, but grips can be easily replaced and shouldn't be your only concern. As your game improves, you can start shopping around for a set that fits your personal style. You may even want to build your own set, club by club, until each one is exactly what you want.
