Walking around an 18-hole course is a great way to get exercise. If you feel that you have to use a golf cart, however, there are plenty of choices. There are gas or electric models that range from simple to elaborate. The controls vary in carts from different manufacturers. There may be one pedal for acceleration and another for the brake, or a single pedal that applies the brake automatically when you take your foot off. A cart may also have a shift lever for choosing forward, reverse, or neutral. Operating instructions and safety precautions are normally posted on the cart. Familiarize yourself with both before you start out. While most carts are simple, you can find some that have sophisticated suspensions, sunroofs, or stereo systems. If you want style, there are carts designed to resemble anything from a Rolls Royce to a classic 1932 roadster. Most courses have their own regulations regarding cart use, which will be posted. Some courses may insist that you stay on the paths at all times. If your course doesn't demand this, follow what's called the 90-degree rule. This means driving the cart on the path until it's even with your ball. Then you can drive onto the course, make your shot, and return to the cart path.
