Niagara Falls, N.Y. (AP) - The mother of a dead 5-year-old girl says the teen accused of killing her daughter is a "mooch."

A child from Cheektowaga who was staying overnight with her great-grandmother was found dead Monday morning in a garbage can in an alley.

The child’s mother said the teen accused of killing her daughter would come and go from her grandmother's house and that she had asked he not be allowed to sleep there.

But Crystal Walker told a Buffalo TV station that her grandmother, Sharon Lascelle, had a big heart and would let John Freeman sleep over when his heat was turned off.

Police charged 16-year-old John Robert Freeman with second-degree murder in the death of Isabella Sarah Tennant.
