Cohocton, N.Y. - A portion of I-390 in Steuben County will be re-named in honor of a fallen soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Tuesday, Governor Cuomo signed legislation to designate a portion of Route I-390 in Steuben County as the "Sergeant Devin Snyder Memorial Highway." Cuomo says the tribute will honor Synder’s memory and sacrifice.

She's remembered fondly in her hometown of Cohocton and managed to impact many throughout our nation long before her death on June 4.

A military hero, 20 year-old Devin Snyder, was our region's first female casualty of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In June of 2011, Sergeant Snyder was killed by a roadside bomb while serving her country in Afghanistan a year ago.

Earlier this year, a plaque was dedicated in her memory on Veteran’s Day at the Lawrence Parks Recreation Area.

But Wednesday, a new addition will be dedicated to her bravery and service.

Snyder's parents remembered their daughter as a driven young woman.

"Whatever she did, she went after it. If you want it, go after it, because she did," her father Ed Snyder said. Her mother Dineen Snyder agrees, saying, "Always give 110 percent, don't ever give up on your dreams, no matter what the cost."

Devin Snyder graduated from Wayland-Cohocton in 2008.
