Avon, N.Y.-  Avon Police say they’re looking into whether a driver who crashed into a senior living facility Wednesday had a seizure.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. at the Avon on the Green Living Center at Main and Prospect.

Police say the driver of the car, David Gunther of Avon, was on East Main Street in the village, failed to turn as he entered the traffic circle and went airborne through a park before slamming into the building.

Police say 81-year-old James Buske, who was inside the apartment at the time, was taken to Strong Hospital with critical injuries. He suffered burns from a hot water pipe that burst when the car hit his apartment. Rescue crews found him under the rubble.

Gunther is in satisfactory condition at the hospital.

It’s not clear yet what caused him to lose control of the car. Police are still investigating.

The entire building will be closed until Friday around 12pm. After that, only the north end of the building will open for residents. The rest of the building will remain closed for several more days.

The Red Cross is assisting some of the residents that have been displaced.
