Greece, N.Y.--Since 1975, Greece Police have used a former water treatment facility on Island Cottage Road as headquarters.

"To do interviews of suspects with our interview rooms--those aren't the holding cells, but the interview rooms--we literally have to close off three or more doors so the investigators can do their job in peace," said Todd Baxter, Chief of Police.

As for the holding cells, there are two of them in the entire facility.

For these reasons and others related to the aging facility, Greece wants a new police headquarters.

"Our goal is to not have an affect on the tax dollars. No one wants to go the taxpayers and say, ‘We want to raise your taxes,’ obviously in this economy," said Baxter.

There is no set timetable, though Baxter alluded to 2013 as being a point where the officials could start looking at financing.

"This is a long range goal as far as a new bricks and mortars construction. But, again, it will have to be at a minimum impact to the taxpayers," said John Auberger, Town Supervisor.

The new station would ideally be placed in the same vicinity as the town hall, library, and courthouse campus on Vince Tofany Boulevard according to town officials.
