Rochester, N.Y. – With predictions of a “super storm” Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in preparation for hurricane Sandy

Heavy rain and wind is forecasted and emergency management as well as other county and city leaders in our area are also preparing for the potential impact of the storm.

Officials are monitoring the storm, working on removing leaves that could cause back up and flooding.

On Friday road crews in Chili were out clearing leaves from neighborhood streets.  It's a standard practice for the end of October, but there's more urgency this week with the threat of Sandy heading our way.

These crews will be working overtime on Saturday, hoping to clear as many leaves as possible.

In the meantime, people living in Henrietta along the Genesee River say they are not too concerned about the rain heading our way, but will keep an eye on the weather.

“I guess I'm not really concerned that much about it,” said Lorrie Davcev, who lives along the Genesee River.  “We haven't gotten that much rain this year, all the water levels are pretty low so we would have to take a pretty substantial amount of rain before we see flooding here.”

Emergency management officials say people can help prevent back up on their street by making sure drainage grates are clear.

Officials will continue to monitor the storm, and will have conference calls with the National Weather Service over the weekend.
