Rochester, N.Y. (AP) — The autistic Rochester man who gained national fame by scoring 20 points in four minutes in his only high school game has traded in his basketball sneakers for running shoes.
Jason McElwain, known as J-Mac, is entered in this Sunday's MVP Rochester Marathon. The 23-year-old supermarket baker said that he decided last year to start training for the 26.2-mile race.
J-Mac was the student manager of the Greece Athena High School team when he came off the bench in 2006 to hit six 3-pointers and two free throws in four minutes. Video of his scoring spurt went viral, and he was the subject of national news stories.
J-Mac, who ran cross country in high school, says he hopes to finish the race in a little over three hours.
