Brockport principal Dana Boshnack had seen enough -- enough classrooms filling up with boys, enough from parents who were pulling their girls out of class. She knew that there were challenges in convincing freshman girls to sign up for Technology courses, but this was more than a challenge. This was a situation that now saw many classrooms with no girls at all.

"We obviously have one or two students in some of those classes who are females, but for a majority of classes, they're now all males," Boshnack told us.

These Technology courses are the kind that lead to college Engineering courses, where RIT also sees low female numbers (about 23% this year). So Boshnack worked with Brockport teachers to create a new all-girls Technology class. It's for freshmen only, and it will be taught exactly the same way mixed-gender classes are taught.

The decision to create the all-girls class is already paying off.

"We're looking at essentially doubling the number of female students signing up for technology," Boshnack explains. Teacher Gordy DiBattisto concurs.

"We opened up the class and in about a week, we reached full capacity," DiBattisto says. "That just shows that there's a need. There's an interest from students and from parents."

What an ignorant thing to say. What are you? a feminist. wanting women taking control of the world? The idea is to promote gender equality. Are you going to say that every single girl in a science area surpasses every single male in that same area? What an ignorant idiot you are.

This is good news. Girls have been pushed by by males for too long and now that they are getting an equal chance, girls and women are surpassing males in almost every area. They said girls would not be good in math or science but once again, girls are showing society that this is not true. Even though I am a male, I realized years ago that the thought that males were the superior sex was a con job all along and that women are far superior to the human male. These girls will prove that once again. It will not be long before women take control of the world and it can't come soon enough. Women have been cleaning up after us males throughout history so lets let the males move over and let the women take over once again.

This seems like a good way to address a very real problem. Why let a very real social discomfort get in the way of a good education. The positive response to this new option proves that there really is an interest in science among the girls its just that they had to go into a difficult environment to participate. Maybe in the future they could try to create classes that are more 50/50. Keeps diversity yet one group is not so seriously outnumbered.
