Webster, N.Y. -- The 27 men and women who make up the Webster Police Department miss their Lieutenant, colleague, and friend.
But they know they still have a job to do – and they’ve known that since Christmas Day.
And as the department responds to service calls throughout Webster, the community is responding back.
“They feel our sorrow, it's their sorrow and pain as well and yet what can we do? how can we help? How can we help you move forward? That's an incredible gift,” said Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering.
Webster is considered by many to be “Chip’s” town, and the officers he worked with can’t thank the community enough for the support they’ve seen over the past few weeks.
"He was Webster. He was police, he was fire, I followed him through the ranks in the fire department and had the opportunity to work for him at the police department and he knew everything that was going on around town,” said Officer Tony Galante, who was also a volunteer firefighter with Chiapperini at West Webster.
An award bar will be created to memorialize “Chip” for years to come.
