Waterloo, Seneca County- A not guilty plea Monday for the Seneca County man accused of killing his son and staging it as an accident.

Karl Karlsen, 52, of Varick, was arraigned on charges of second degree murder and insurance fraud after the death of his son Levi in 2008.

Karlsen is accused of killing Levi by causing a pickup truck to fall on him.

Police say an insurance policy was taken out just days before Levi's death.

Karlsen’s attorney asked for bail but a judge denied that request.

Karlsen is also under investigation by authorities in California in connection with the death of his first wife in a 1991 house fire.
