Batavia, N.Y. – State Police arrested a Rochester man for trying to steal scrap metal.

Police say Robert L. Knight, 44, had put the metal in his trunk and was trying to get away from Bergen Auto Recycling when employees stopped him from leaving.

His 18-year-old son, Robert L. Knight, Jr., was driving the car.

Police say Knight gave a false name when police first arrested him. His true identity was uncovered and he was charged with a probation violation, criminal impersonation, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and petit larceny . He was arraigned in the Town of Leroy court and remanded to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $1000 bail.

His son was issued tickets for operating without a driver’s license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle and switched plates.
