Rochester, N.Y. - The East Avenue Wegmans store will close Saturday, February 23 at 6:00 pm.
The 43,000 square foot store built in 1962 will be torn down to make way for the new Wegmans being built behind it.
The space occupied by the current building will be turned into a parking lot.
Wegmans expects demolition to happen in late March or Early April.
The Pharmacy will move across the street to 1749 East Avenue during the transition.
Wegmans says it plans to keep as many items stocked as possible until the closing. Much of the food that isn't sold will be donated to Foodlink.
Equipment that is still in good condition will be moved to other stores, and employees will work at other locations until it's time to stock the new building.
The new East Avenue Wegmans is scheduled to open on Sunday, May 19, at 7:00 am.
