STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they are questioning a man who crashed a car on a rural eastern New York road and fled, leaving behind a passenger whose body was found hours later.
The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office tells local media outlets that 24-year-old Brendan Hoffman of Stephentown was driving in his hometown shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday when the car crashed on a curve and overturned.
A witness told deputies that as he approached the wreckage, he saw Hoffman get into another car that drove away from the scene.
Officials found the body of Christopher Baker, also 24 and from Stephentown, four hours later in a ravine about 100 feet from the crash.
Hoffman was later found at the hospital in Pittsfield, Mass. He hasn't been charged.
