Rochester, N.Y. – Starting this summer, food trucks could roll into the city as part of a trial run.

The trucks are currently prohibited from parking on city streets and selling food.

After lobbying the city, several food trucks may be allowed set up shop on city streets possibly starting in June.

Friday, food truck owners and the city clerk met to hash out the details.

“I think we're heading in the right direction and as business owners we should be part of downtown Rochester very soon to bring what we can to make it a striving area," said Mary O’Sullivan of Marty’s Meats.

Food trucks have grown in popularity over the last few years, but parking them on city streets came with issues of safety and competition.

“We're trying to do this in a way that does not harm existing businesses … We're trying to create something that will be good for downtown, for people who live and work here,” said city clerk Dan Karin.

Food truck owners say the city council still has to approve the plan.
