Geneseo, N.Y. - A man is recovering at the hospital after plunging 150 feet down a gorge in Geneseo Saturday.

Livingston County Sheriff John York says Robert Benjamin, 18, of Warwick, N.Y., fell over the edge of the falls in the area known as Fall Brook on Route 63 in Geneseo.

The incident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Several agencies responded to the scene and were able to pull the injured man to safety.

Benjamin was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Benjamin was apparently hiking with his friends before he fell.

Firefighters said the warm weather conditions made the rescue muddy and very difficult.
