Man Charged After Police Find Live Grenade In Car

LeRoy, N.Y. – LeRoy Police charged a Buffalo-area man after they found ammunition and a live grenade in his car during a routine traffic stop.  Police say they searched the car after allegedly smelling marijuana.

It happened around 6:40 Monday morning on Route 19, just north of Route 5 in the village.

Police say the area was evacuated and a state bomb disposal unit removed the grenade, which the man admitted to making. Police did not say why the man made or had the grenade.

The driver is charged with first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding and driving with a suspended license. His name has not been released.
