Penfield, N.Y. – Funds were raised for the Heather Boyum Memorial Children’s Education Fund on Sunday with a triathlon held in honor of Heather Boyum.

Heather was out riding her riding her bike earlier this year when she was hit by a car and killed. She was a science teacher at Fairport high school.

Eric Boyum, Heather’s husband, was at the event and collected a $1,000 check on the Children’s Education Fund’s behalf.

Eric is honored that the YMCA chose to honor his wife at the event, saying, “It’s amazing that they chose the kids education foundation to donate the money to, and just that Heather was involved with this triathlon last year and actually won, it means a lot that they thought of us.”

The event was also attended by Bonnie Venton, a friend of Heather for two years.

Venton participated in triathlons with Heather and says that Rochester is “a relatively small community but it’s a very welcoming community of tri-athletes and distance runners and [Heather] was a huge part of it not only because of her athletic talent but because of her spirit.”
