AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a headless torso found floating in Lake Ontario in central New York nearly 30 years ago has been identified as the remains of a missing suburban Buffalo girl.

Amherst and Oswego County authorities announced Friday that DNA tests led to the identification of the remains of 14-year-old Nancy Scamurra. She was last seen in early July 1984 walking away from her Williamsville home.

A man fishing on Lake Ontario north of Oswego Harbor discovered the torso on July 14, 1984.

Amherst police reopened the case last year and Oswego police recently ordered DNA testing on the remains. Authorities say they consider her death a homicide. They're asking the public to share any information that would help solve the teen's death.

Oswego is 120 miles northeast of Amherst.
