Wayland, Steuben County - A Steuben County man is facing assault charges after allegedly stabbing his neighbor in the neck.

This happened around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Belanger Trailer Park in Wayland.

Investigators say 78-year-old Raymond O'Keefe knocked on Laura Thomas' door, and then stabbed her in the neck. Thomas' husband intervened to prevent further injury.

Thomas was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she is in guarded condition.

O'Keefe was arrested and charged with first degree assault and attempted assault.

He's being held in the Steuben County Jail on $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.

Police have not released a motive for the attack.
