Rochester, N.Y. - It wasn't your average day at the beach Sunday morning in Charlotte.

Hundreds of people took part in the annual Polar Plunge, which is part of Rochester's Annual Lakeside Winter Celebration.

Part of the growing tradition: outlandish outfits. Most "plungers" donned everything from pirate suits, to superhero get-ups, to presidential masks as they ran into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario.

Aside from checking the item of their bucket list, these daredevils had a reason for the freezing: raising money for the Special Olympics.

Along with the plunge, other activities over the weekend included an ice sculpture contest and a chili cookoff.

This was the Lakeside Winter Celebration's 29th year.
