CNN - More and more Americans are finding it hard to stash cash for emergencies.

A new Bankrate-dot-com study released today suggests that 28 percent of Americans don't have a single penny saved.

That's up from 24-percent last year.

Researchers blame stagnant incomes and the rising cost of household expenses.

Prolonged unemployment has sapped some Americans' savings accounts dry.

Here's an idea that may help you.

Financial analysts suggest setting up a direct deposit from your paycheck or checking account into a dedicated savings account.

How is anyone able to save when everything goes up EXCEPT our wages? I am happy to be working, but no raise in 5 years is putting me back to where I was 10-15 years ago as far as earnings power goes. Savings - what a joke!
