Rochester, N.Y.- There’s a new online site to make things more convenient for patients of Unity Health System.

They can now request appointments, ask non-urgent medical questions and access medical documents online by using My Unity, a web-based patient portal.

The new site is available for use by more than 165,000 patients in Unity’s primary, dental and select specialty practices.

On the patient portal, patients can request non-urgent appointments. They can also ask non-urgent medical questions, by logging in and use it in the same way they would an email program. Patients can also request office visit summaries, immunization records, office forms such as physical exam requests and laboratory test-result records.  And finally, the online research center includes a symptom checker and health-decision tools, along with information on medical conditions, medications, medical tests and more.

“The portal allows me to communicate and work with patients who travel frequently, or don’t have time until the evening when their kids are in bed,” said Robert Bingham, M.D., endocrinologist at Unity Hospital. “I encourage all of my patients to enroll in My Unity so they can access their providers and the practice when it’s convenient for them.”

In the future, patients will be able to send prescription refill requests online and will have access to their medical records.
