2012 Voice Of Voter Poll Results

A new Monroe County Voice of the Voter sponsored poll shows President Barack Obama with a 13-point lead over challenger Mitt Romney in the race for President and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter with a 5-point lead over Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks in the race for the 25th District congressional seat.

Eight-hundred Monroe County residents who said they were likely to vote in November were polled by the Siena College Research Institute. In the presidential race, 52% said if the election was held today they would vote for President Obama. 39% said they would vote for his Republican challenger Mitt Romney. 9% said they are undecided, would vote for someone else, or refused to answer.

In the race for the 25th Congressional District seat 49% of those polled said they would vote for Democratic Congresswoman Louise Slaughter; 44% said they would vote for Republican Maggie Brooks.

In the City of Rochester, 75% responded they would vote for President Obama while 19% said they favored Governor Romney. The rest of Monroe County was evenly divided; 45% for each candidate.

In the Slaughter/Brooks race 69% of the City of Rochester respondents said they would choose Slaughter while 24% favored Brooks. In the rest of Monroe County 50% of those polled said they would choose Maggie Brooks. 43% said they would vote for Louise Slaughter.

The poll was conducted between October 7 and October 11 and shows respondents chose predominantly along party lines. 86% of the Democrats polled chose President Obama. 74% of the Republicans chose Governor Romney. 81% of the Democrats polled said they would vote for Slaughter while 78% of the Republicans said they would vote for Brooks. The poll has a 3.5-percent plus or minus margin of error.
