Martin Family Attorney: Race Should Not Be Part Of Murder Trial

Florida – An attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family says race should not be part of the murder trial against George Zimmerman.
The remark came after Martin’s friend, Rachel Jeantel --the last person to talk to Martin before he was killed – testified that Martin used racial slurs the night he was shot and killed by Zimmerman.
“To this family, race is not part of the process,” said Daryl Parks, the Martins’ attorney. “And anybody who tries to inject race into it is wrong.
“Let’s be clear about it, very clear; this family does not want race as part of this process, and does not believe it should be part of this process.”
Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last year. He says he shot Martin in self-defense.
