Penfield, N.Y. - It's a problem neighbors say has been going on for years. Someone has been breaking into cars in the middle of the night in Penfield.
Tracy Schumacher has lived on Putting Green Lane in Penfield for the last 15 years.
She had a pair of sunglasses stolen out of her car sometime Saturday night.
“That was the only one that was unlocked,” Schumacher said.
Other cars in the neighborhood were also broken into - one man says his car was completely torn apart.
“We're all sleeping, you wake up, and you feel violated,” Schumacher said.
Especially when they found a broken flower pot in the driveway, someone tried but failed to break her son's car window.
“Thank goodness his car what locked because he had CDs, his wallet, everything in there,” Schumacher said.
Neighbors tell us cars have been broken into in this neighborhood before, and unfortunately the break-ins happen almost every year.
“It seems like it's always this time of year,” said Michael Hogan, who had his car broken into about five years ago. “In the 10 years we've lived here, there have been five or six instances where someone goes ‘Ahh, we got broken into last night’ and it just doesn't make a lot of sense.”
Hogan now keeps his cars locked.
He hasn’t had any problems since.
According to Monroe County Sheriff's deputies, the cars that were broken into over the weekend were unlocked.
They advise people keep their cars locked and all valuables out of view.
