Branchport, N.Y. -- For nearly 48 hours, residents of Branchport, Yates County, worked to clear ditches and culverts along North Main Street.
"This was 3 feet deep and there was an old pizza box stuck down there," said Kris Pearson of Branchport as she showed us the culvert near her home.
That was just a small fraction of the work the neighbors have done along this street.
"Scraping a lot of mud making sure our culverts and ditches are clean," said Shawn French, who lives across the street. He said the sidewalk in front of his home was a river Tuesday night. His neighbor got 4 feet of water in her basement.
Residents said they were glad to see the Department of Transportation moving large debris from the area ahead of the next storm.
"This is small potatoes doing what they had to do," said Pearson, "so we're hoping they get most of it out and any flooding from this rain is going to be minor."
