Cold weather hurting maple production

Attica, N.Y. -- The freezing cold weather this winter is taking a toll on maple syrup providers in Western New York.
Several maple producers, including Merle Maple Farm in Attica, said they’re facing delays in production because of unusually cold temperatures.
Producers said they need temperatures of at least 35 degrees Fahrenheit, or preferably higher than 40, to draw sap from maple trees and turn it into syrup.
Despite the problems, Maple Weekend events will take place across the state in March as scheduled.
