Future of Blossom South could be decided next week

Rochester, N.Y.— The future of a local nursing home is in the hands of a federal court judge.
Government inspectors want to close Blossom South, saying the facility has had more than two years to improve conditions, and has failed to do so.
Blossom South’s attorneys argue that the facility has made significant improvements, and passed a major inspection this spring.
Next week a judge will decide whether the government is permitted to cut off Medicare and Medicaid payments, which would take away 98% of Blossom South’s revenue. That would effectively shut it down.
Blossom South’s owner says closure of the facility would eliminate 167 jobs, and force 120 medically fragile patients to find new homes.
