Rochester, N.Y. – Organizers closed the Lilac Festival on May 16 due to heavy rains.
Three vendor tents collapsed under the weight of rain water, combined with strong winds. Vendor Brian O’Hare said Highland Park looked like a war zone.
"It's like World War III in there to be honest with you. A lot of the booths that have the smaller tents look like they took a hard hit. They are collapsed in some ways, Some of the people's products are sprawled all over the place; so I think it's going to take today just to fix the disaster."
Jesse Chavez, another vendor, said money was a major concern during the closure.
"We're losing a lot of money because obviously we pay for our real estate, and we're not able to work today."
The festival is scheduled to be back open on Saturday and Sunday.
