Rochester, N.Y. -- Life is a Cabaret for 12 year old Madeline Berl. She has been singing and dancing since she was 4 years old.
But this performance is different. She is dedicating her Cabaret show to cancer survivors.
Specifically, she wants to honor her mother's best friend, Susan Berg. Susan was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer at the age of 43. After being treated, she learned she also had the breast cancer gene. That meant she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer.
So she underwent a double mastectomy.
Even at a young age, Madeline admired the courage "Miss Susan" showed while being treated for cancer and her positive attitude.
That inspired her to put on this show, which will benefit Gilda's Club of Rochester.
It is Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at the Country Club of Rochester.
Susan was touched that Madeline wanted to honor her. Since she is in remission and doing well, she suggested they dedicate the performance to those still fighting cancer and those who lost their battle.
No one is more proud of Madeline than her mother, Elizabeth Berl. She said her daughter has learned the importance of using her talents to give back to others.
Madeline's talent and voice coach has also encouraged her students to pay it forward. Cara D'Emanuele said: "Kids need to realize they've been given these gifts..and it's nice to give back."
Madeline said she doesn't get nervous before she performs, she just takes a deep breath and sings.
She is a seventh grader at Our Lady of Mercy High School and hopes to pursue a career in Music Theater.
When you hear her belt out a show tune, you'll realize, she is talented beyond her years.
She is sharing her talent to help others.
Madeline's Cabaret is a performance that will be both uplifting and inspiring according to Susan Berg.
