Parma, N.Y. - The Monroe County Sheriffs Office is investigating the shooting of a peacock outside a home on Peck Road in Parma Tuesday afternoon. The owners of the bird, Chris and Steve Mills, said they were shocked when they heard gunshots and learned from their son that the peacock was shot in a neighbor's yard.
22 year old Jake Mills witnessed the shooting. He said it was traumatic to see his bird shot to death for no apparent reason. He said the neighbor who shot the bird told him it did business in his yard and that's why he shot it.
Mills said it was also scary for shots to be fired in an area where there are homes and children playing outside. He was still upset about it hours later.
The family raises Alpaca's in their large yard and had three peacocks, including Pete the father, who they said was lost without his son Rex.
They said most of their neighbors on Peck Road enjoyed seeing the birds walking throughout the neighborhood and were friendly to them. That's why they found this shooting so disturbing.
