Washington D.C. - Lawmakers have approved a bill to increase health care spending for veterans.

Roughly half of the $148 million approved in the measure will support veterans' pensions and disability payments.

There are about 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to the Associated Press, about 45 percent of those vets are seeking compensation for injuries they say are service-related.
