Ft. Drum at Watertown, N.Y. (AP) - A new batch of Black Hawk helicopters will be buzzing across the skies of northern New York in the coming weeks.
Officials at Fort Drum gave a few special rides on the M-model Black Hawk helicopters Monday. Two of the new, technologically advanced helicopters took reporters from the Army post outside Watertown to airports in Potsdam and Oswego before returning to Fort Drum.
The 10th Mountain Division's 10th Combat Aviation Brigade is getting 45 of the new Black Hawks, which feature such improvements as computer monitors and other digital tools.
Crews will spend the summer training on the new model of Black Hawks, conducting flights across upstate New York. The brigade's older Black Hawks will be transferred to National Guard units in the region.
