Midland City, Ala. - A standoff in Alabama is into its third day as a man holds a young boy hostage in an underground bunker.
Negotiators have been communicating with the gunman through a 4-inch-wide ventilation pipe.
Police say the gunman pulled a mildly autistic boy off a school bus and shot the driver Tuesday
That 5-year-old boy is still believed to be alive and okay.
"We know that he's crying for his mother and his grandparents,” the Midland mayor said. “Why the shooter doesn't release this boy is hard for me to understand."
Sheriff's deputies say the gunman is believed to have killed the bus driver as a hate crime.
