(13WHAM-TV) - One Republican Senator says he's found $7 billion in wasted taxpayer money that was supposed to be used for homeland security.

Senator Tom Coburn says money appropriated for security funds is being used for things such as—attendees paying $1,000 each to attend the 2012 Counterterrorism Summit for Law Enforcement Officials.

Another example -- an armored vehicle to secure a pumpkin festival in a New Hampshire town . It cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

Coburn called it waste, incompetence and stupidity.

The Department of Homeland Security says its grants "make our communities safer places to live."
