Rochester, N.Y. - Kelly Leavy waited months to hug her husband.
"I couldn't wait for that first hug," she said. "It was the only way I would know he was safe and home and out of danger."
Her husband, First Lt. Sean Leavy, returned home from Afghanistan four months earlier than planned, because of resurgence to bring the troops home.
Leavy also served a tour of duty in Iraq, but says this time was tougher. He left his new bride at home. There was also the element of danger in both deployments. But now, more than ever, he had a reason to come home safely.
For Kelly, the fear was always there. Everytime she heard of someone being killed in Afghanistan, she worried and wondered.
She knows she is lucky to have this homecoming with her husband.
"It was a huge relief, to know I was done and could begin living my life." Leavy told us.
He said he is proud of his service to his country. Though he is no longer on active duty, he will remain in the Army National Guard.
