Rochester, N.Y. - A Rochester teenager was shot and killed overnight.

Around midnight a police officer on routine patrol heard shots fired.  Moments later, 911 calls came in that a man had been shot.

18-year-old Malcolm McFarland was found shot on the sidewalk in front of 58 Flower Street, he was pronounced dead at the scene.  Neighbors tell us they heard the gun shots and called 911.  Chief James Sheppard says since summer a lot of crimes involving fire arms.

“It's something we know we need to address,” said Chief Sheppard.  “We definitely need the community’s help and support with this issue.  We're doing proactive things to try to get the guns off the street but at the same time we need the community and family support to change this culture of violence.”

This is the 28th homicide since the beginning of the year.
