Crews from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition have less than 48 hours to finish a brand new house for a family in Geneva—and they started Friday behind schedule -- and looking for help.

As they've discovered since arriving in our area -- people are willing to give what they can.

What was once the Hills' old house, and then nothing but a foundation is now a blossoming structure of 3800 square feet -- and that's not counting the separate gymnasium behind the house.

With a deadline of Sunday at 2 pm, organizers put out an early-morning call for help from the local community. At that time, Project Manager Todd Campbell said, "Right now we definitely need skilled laborers.  We need framers and carpenters."

And then--help showed up. Dozens of local laborers offered their skills. The crew has also gotten plenty of help from the neighbors.

"Everybody's been great,” Campbell said later. “Everybody has stepped up to the plate.  They're enjoying themselves, they're hosting parties in their yards, and I haven't heard anything but great things."

The Hill family is scheduled to return in a limo on Monday afternoon for the big unveiling.

Crowds watching this house rise by the hour can hardly believe it's going to be ready.
"It's incredible!  To see a house built in this amount of time--is incredible," said Carlene Augustine.

"Nice event for Geneva,” said Nora Knaak who has also been watching, “but it's hard to believe they're going to have this done by Monday!"

(Geneva, N.Y.) –– On Friday, The builder in charge of constructing the new home for the Hill Family of Geneva issued an urgent call for skilled carpenters, framers, and drywallers for the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” project.

Todd Coleman, project manager for Mahoney Construction, said they would appreciate any help from skilled workers who might be available as soon as possible.

Skilled volunteers can just show up at the Geneva City High School at 101 Carter Road whenever they're available.

These skilled tradespersons will be needed for the next several days as the house is pulled together for the family, who is arriving home on Monday.

The weather is cooperating and as of Friday morning, the new 3,500 square foot home has been erected. Coleman said the banister and staircase have been built.

A two-story gym went up the day before behind the house. It can’t be seen from the street, but volunteers said they are painting the interior.

Tim Hill teaches boxing to underprivileged children in the area at his own expense.

if thats true why were they being broken in half as they were being tossed out and there was not dumpster where the drywall was being thrown. if it is in fact going to a good cause fine but I didn't see that. I still think it was a shame to tear down an old home.

Just so you all know. I have been there. "has anyone been there to see the house? I have..it should be called extreme waste. while my husband and I watched for about 15 minutes there were wall size pieces of drywall tossed out one after the other. we would save that for the next project. who knows what else they wasted." If you noticed the drywall being tossed was thrown in its own dumpster. It gets sifted through and anything that can be used goes to a habitat for humanity home. So yes many little homes are being touched by this project. Unless you are behind the scenes you have absolutely no clue so quit spouting your mouth off. As far as I hear and saw the neighbors are all great. I would like to see you organize an event like this and have everything under complete control. To the Crew Chiefs out there working almost 24 hour shifts....keep up the good work. To all the laborers and volunteers and tradesmen, You will be blessed for your good deeds someday! Maybe if all you people that are complaining would've volunteered you would be rewarded someday also. Instead keep complaining and you will be judged for that someday. May God Bless You All!

If anyone complaining here has watched the show they normally pay for the morgage and most bills are taken care of. Stop being jealous because you didn't deserve it.

has anyone been there to see the house? I have..it should be called extreme waste. while my husband and I watched for about 15 minutes there were wall size pieces of drywall tossed out one after the other. we would save that for the next project. who knows what else they wasted. we also over heard a lot of neighbors who thought the home did not fit into the neighborhood. too extravagant. and many homes on the street and surrounding streets were empty. were the residents paid to stay away or did they choose not to be in the melee..it will be a beautiful home but not something they should have on that street. if they came to my house. no way tear my house down. fix my chimneys, replace my roof, finish my dirt basement-but tear down a 150-200yr old home. no. I can do stuff for my community too. fix my house. I hope they don't have to put it up for callateral like the other family did because they couldn't pay the bills.

This ISN'T NEWS!!! I hate it when a TV channel uses their news channels to promote other shows on their channel. God, I wish 13wham would cover a real news story and get as much details as they are on this ""ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover"".

does this property need to be so extravagant? Where does it end with this show? They build very extravagant houses for families, with very extravagant furnishings and high taxes...spend the money on smaller houses and help more people...and don't run adds asking for skilled workers who are working in this heat and busting their buts all day...asking them to work for free..to build a house most of them can't even afford to live in

So they build a gym so underprivialaged kids can learn to box? They should have built a classroom and tought them life and job skills.

I had the same thought as to why they didn't have people lined up for the inside work already. Then I thought maybe its part of the shows excitement. In any case I am waiting to see if they actually get the house done by end of day sunday.
