(Geneva, N.Y.) - A team from ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" woke up the Hill family in Geneva on Monday morning with a surprise knock at door, followed by a parade of designers, producers, tractor trailers, and RVs.
The Hill family was picked because of selflessness and need. Tim Hill, a social worker, teaches kids to box, and has been doing so for ten years, entirely as a volunteer. Sometimes he even takes some of the kids he trains into his family.
Extreme Makeover will give the Hills a new gym and a new home
The family is a little overwhelmed by it all, but they’re managing.
Michelle Hill said, “I think it’ll take the stress off, if we know that when it rains the basement’s not going to flood and we don’t have to go down there and bucket it out or worry that the boiler will get taken over by the water coming in—things like that.”
Extreme’s Designer Michael Moloney said, "I’m so impressed with this family. They’re such solid people. They haven’t asked for anything. They’re just so gracious and grateful…that makes us want to work that much harder and give them that much more. We’re just giving them tools this week, to continue doing what they do--taking care of others, taking care of their community and giving back.”
The Hills are also getting a vacation a week in Cancun, so they’ll be away while all the work is being done.
When they come back, they will have a new home.
Michelle Hill said, "I think mostly if there’s anything they can do for the community with the program, the children. That’s what’s most important."
