Rochester, N.Y. – A federal agency is giving some attention to Ginna Nuclear Power Plant because of a maintenance issue.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says it will increase oversight at Ginna because of a problem involving a pump that is part of a backup system used to remove heat from the reactor.
The NRC says the operators of the plant, Constellation Energy, did not take adequate steps to prevent corrosion from recurring.
The NRC stresses that this issue poses no threat to the public.
Constellation Energy says the mechanical issue has been addressed, and is working with the NRC to make sure maintenance questions have been resolved.
