Albany N.Y. - Opponents of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas are holding rallies Thursday in at least six cities.
The rallies are in response to reports that Governor Andrew Cuomo may support shale gas development in Southern Tier communities that pass resolutions in favor of it.
Cuomo said Wednesday that he's considering allowing hydraulic fracturing on a limited basis. The New York Times reported that Cuomo's administration is pursuing plans that would allow hydrofracking along the New York-Pennsylvania border.
Opponents of the practice are concerned it could contaminate drinking water and want a a statewide ban on hydrofracking
