Penfield, N.Y. - By year's end, developers expect to have begun work on a $60 million luxury apartment complex off of Empire Blvd.
The Penfield Town Board unanimously approved the project Wednesday night.
The complex will include 358 apartments and a 3,500 square foot clubhouse.
The developers, the Daniele family, which owns Mario's and Basil restaurants, said this project has been in the works for more than 7 years.
In that time, several issues demanded attention including an eagle's nest nearby.
The Danieles worked with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on a plan to prevent construction from endangering the protected area.
Traffic concerns were also addressed by adjusting a section of Empire Boulevard.
At Tuesday's meeting, no one spoke out against the project.
"As we went along the process and we had our work sessions here, the number of people continued to shrink down because I think a lot of the items people were concerned about were addressed," said town supervisor Tony LaFountain.
"It's a big deal," said Dan Daniele. "We're very happy about it and it didn't happen overnight. A lot of hard work from a lot of good people."
