Greece, N.Y. - In Greece, Republican John Auberger is hanging on to his third term as Greece Town Supervisor, in spite of the flap in recent months in the Greece Police Department which has put Auberger under scrutiny.

Democrats had accused Auberger of incompetence because the town suffered so much corruption during Auberger's time in office.

Former Greece Police Chief Merritt Rahn, who has been charged with several felonies in recent months, even accused Auberger of breaching the terms of his settlement with the town by sending a letter to Greece residents detailing his $10,000 payout.

His challenger, Dan Maloney is not conceding the race. He said he wants to make sure all absentee ballots are counted and polling machines are double-checked.

“It's a tough town. The demographics, Republican versus Democrats, were against me,” Maloney said. “Thank God I had a whole lot of Republicans that came over to help my team. They were fed up… they wanted a change.”

With all districts reporting, unofficial results put Maloney trailing Auberger by more than 400 votes. The Board of Elections said Wednesday that they have counted some absentee ballots, and Auberger is still leading by just over 420 votes.

Late absentee ballots will be counted next Tuesday, and voting machines will be re-canvassed on Friday.

Maloney said the results show that the town is "deeply divided."
