Pittsford, N.Y. - The Pittsford Town Board appointed Bill Taylor as the Town Justice Tuesday night.

Taylor will fill a vacancy left by William Smith, Jr., who was appointed to the Pittsford Town Board.

Taylor is a former prosecutor and Monroe County attorney. He unsuccessfully ran for Monroe County District Attorney in 2011, losing to Democrat Sandra Doorley.

The appointment is effective on January 28. If Taylor wishes to keep the Town Justice position, he will have to run in November's election.
