Brighton, N.Y. – A special basketball tournament was held Saturday at Brighton High School in memory of Jeffrey Bordeaux, Jr., who was killed two years ago at a frat party at the University of Rochester.

The tournament, organized by childhood friends, was all about celebrating Bordeaux’s life.

“He was always a gleaming smile,” said Andrew Kovacsiss. “I was really inspired by Jeff and his life.”

Kovacsiss and several other Brighton High grads organized the first Bordeaux Classic last year and were able to raise $2,500 in his name.

This year, proceeds from the second tournament will go to scholarships given to Rochester students through the Youth Sports Foundation – the same organization for which Bordeaux, a Brighton grad, used to volunteer.

“It’s hard for young people (to volunteer) … it was always good to see him participate,” said Tony Jordan, president of Youth Sports Foundation.
